My-ID project publishes guides for schools on how to cooperate with parents on sexual and gender diversity - December 04, 2023

4 December 2023 - The European My-ID partnership closed its two-year project with the publication of three products on how schools can cooperate with parents on the topic of sexual and gender diversity. The three products are a School Guide on how to communicate with parents, a template for a Brochure for Parents to inform school parents about the LGBTIQ+ policy of the school and a short general Parent’s Leaflet for all parents for the national levels of project partners.

My-ID compendium with classroom activities on LGBTIQ+ topics available - July 27, 2023

27 July, 2023 - The European “My-ID” project has published its English version of their compendium with classroom activities. The compendium contains 36 activities on LGBTIQ+ topics that teacher can implement in their classrooms. The activities cover social studies and biology/health, but also subjects like history, physical education, languages and mathematics.

Online platform about LGBTIQ+ and COVID-19 opens - April 04, 2023

4 April, 2023 - On May 2, GALE is hosting a short online information and discussion session on the RAINBO project. The project aimed to reduce the risks of LGBTIQ+ in times of COVID-19 by offering online training to health professionals. The project resulted in a (free) online training platform. The session will take place via Zoom from 16:00-17:00 and will be in Dutch. Similar meetings will be held in Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania and the UK.

Emotional intelligence needed for safer schools - March 15, 2023

15 March 1, 2023 - A recent international research by the University of Córdoba and the European BOOST project showed that when schools focus on securing a safer school climate, this also increases the emotional intelligence of students. Although the study did not specifically go into nondiscrimination, it is likely that antidiscrimination programs focusing on LGBTIQ+ should also focus on developing emotional intelligence.

European partnership proposes 11 qualifications for LGBTI+ sensitivity for vocational training - February 26, 2021

26 February 2021 - Today, the SENSE-project published her fourth newsletter. This issue focuses on how the European partnership developed qualification frameworks for students and teachers in vocational education. A key question was: do we need formal and specific LGBTI+ criteria for vocational professional qualifications? Or are general competences enough when applied with adequate sensitivity?

Class activity: Fatima needs advice - September 08, 2019

8 September 2019 - Today, GALE starts building a database with activities educators can use in class. The activities will be formatted in a template based on the My-ID design. “My-ID” is the new design for a method schools can use to properly implement a program to integrate LGBTI issues in their classrooms and in their policy. The first activity in the database is “Fatima needs advice”, an activity for 13-16 years old about how to respond to a class mate who questions her sexual preference.

Manual on educating prosociality in high schools published - September 04, 2019

September 4, 2019 - The European ALICE-project published a manual on how to educate about prosociality in high schools. Prosociality focuses on a positive approach rather than an "anti" strategy. The manual explain in depth how schools can implement such an approach, in the school and with the wider community. Although "prosociality" sounds innocent and acceptable to all, the concept proofs to be quite radical if implemented fully. This was even shown in the ALICE-partnership that produced the manual, where the diversity chapter has to be removed from the manual after protests of a partner from a more conservative country.

LGBT in the Quran - August 25, 2019

25 August 2019 - GALE added an article on sexual diversity in the Quran to the database. You can often get questions or comments from Muslim students about homosexuality in Islam. They generally claim that homosexuality is banned by the Quran. But if you continue to ask, they often do not know the statements and they get stuck in "it is just not allowed, it is haram" .It is true that there are a number of passages in the Quran referring to the story of Sodom which seem to prohibit sex between men. But there is more to say about it.

Defensive freeze reaction in the brain helps to act better - August 15, 2019

15 August 2019 - Someone who initially “freeze” in a threatening situation can then shoot faster. This is the result of research among candidate police officers, who subsequently shot faster and more accurately during the tests. The research, conducted by brain scientists at Radboud University, was published in Scientific Reports in March. This finding supports the GALE technique which educates teachers and LGBTI activists to respond to fierce homophobia and transphobia.

School visitation by students method translated from Dutch to English - April 26, 2018

26 April 2018 - While the Gay OK sexual diversity method is currently being implemented in Dutch schools, the manual has finally been translated into English so it can be accessible to various educational instructors and institutions around the world. Gay OK youth teams consist of a group of students who are dedicated to LGBTI acceptance in education. With cooperation of school management, the youth teams use the manual to conduct sexual diversity conversations, workshops, surveys, and other methods to promote LGBTI visibility and acceptance in education.
