29 December 2021 - India's National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) was forced to take down their newly developed module for teachers on issues of transgender and gender-conforming children. They were forced by a backlash from right-wingers who objected to references to caste-patriarchy, recommendations around gender-neutral restrooms, and mention of puberty blockers.

Greek Rainbow School asks government for inclusive sex education - December 02, 2021

2 December 2021 - The Greek organization Rainbow School is filing a petition to the Greek government to demand the introduction of sex education as a compulsory part of the curriculum. Rainbow School believes that urgent action is required to help LGBTIQ+ individuals overcome the hatred they face and that true inclusive sex education can contribute effectively towards this direction.

Ghana proposes LGBT censorship legislation - July 25, 2021

25 July 2021 - Yet another country has proposed legislation to censor any neutral or positive expression of sexual preference or gender identity. This time it is Ghana, where the government proposed a so-called “family values bill”. The bill proscribes “propaganda” and advocacy for “LGBTIQQIAAP” and related activities. The text of the bill is full of offenses and lies about LGBTI+ people to support the censorship. It proposes sentences of 3 to 10 years imprisonment for any visible education or advocacy activity, and even for forming an LGBTI+ organization.

Chinese WeChat deletes LGBT accounts university students - July 07, 2021

7 July 2021 - The Chinese tech giant WeChat social media platform deleted dozens of accounts of LGBT groups run by university students, as well as private accounts of students running the group accounts. According to WeChat the LGBT profiles had broken rules on internet information. Spreading positive information is forbidden by the public internet (censor) authority of China.

Polish minister of education calls LGBT people perverse and abnormal - July 05, 2021

5 July 2021 - The Polish minister of education Przemyslaw Czarnek called the equal rights march on 19 June in Warsaw an insult to public morality. He asked if the participants were normal. He later came back of this remark, saying he had meant the protester’s cross-dressing behavior was not bizarre, “not the participants themselves”. But at the same time he called non-heteronormative desire a perversion.

Spanish teachers wear skirts to support boy student - June 22, 2021

22 June 2021 - In May, male teachers from Spain in Euskadi wore skirts in school as a protest. In October 2020, a 15-year old student published a video in which he said he was kicked out of school and sent to a psychologist for wearing a skirt. The teachers wore the skirts to support the student.

Hungary censors education about sexual and gender diversity - June 18, 2021

18 June 2021 - The Hungarian parliament has taken a new step towards marginalizing LGBTIQ people and to destroy the quality of education. They did this by adoption a new law that depends sharing content about homosexual orientation and sex reassignment with young people. The new law impacts educational programs, advertising and even popular television shows. As other countries have done more than a century ago, the Hungarian government links homosexuality with pedosexual seduction and rape.

Schools in Australia can still expel students for being gay or trans - June 08, 2021

8 June 2021 - In a recent parliament debate in Australia, the government was reminded by senator Janet Rice that the government promised to produce legislation to forbid religious schools banning LGBT students three years ago. However, the government does not want to grant this protection now because “it is still considering the development of the Religious Discrimination Bill”.

Presentation of new method for LGBTI sensitivity in VET - March 30, 2021

30 March 2021 - On May 18, the European federation for Vocational Education and Training providers will organize an online presentation and expert meeting of the SENSE-project on LGBTI issues in vocational education. The presentation will present the four products of the project and will discuss the need for national and European specific qualifications vocational students need to support LGBTI clients and customers. At the end of the online meeting, a Dutch spoken session will be held to discuss the specific experiences in the Dutch partner organization ROC van Amsterdam.
