IRQO Report on LGBT Human Rights Violations in Iran
The Report "Humanity Denied: The Violations of the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender Persons in IRAN" is submitted to the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Situation in Iran by the Iranian Queer Organization (IRQO) in September 2011.
The Report's topic is the discrimination and violence against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Iran that is widespread in its scope and horrific in its consequences. It does not undertake a comprehensive analysis of this culture of violence and discrimination, but is rather restricted to raising concerns about the most serious human violations faced by LGBT persons in Iran. As such, it examine three internationally recognized human rights which are of great relevance to sexual minorities: the right to life, the right not to be tortured or subjected to inhumane or degrading treatment, and the right to freedom of expression; and it examines the manner in which the Iranian government violates them with respect to sexual minorities.
Main chapters of the Report, each extensively described in several sub paragraphs, are the following:
- Religious, Penal and Political Approaches to Homosexuality
- Life Denied: Execution of Sexual Minorities
- Dignity Denied: Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment of Sexual Minorities
- Expression Denied: Surveillance and Silencing of Sexual Minorities
In conclusion the Report closes with the chapter "Humanity Denied: Concluding Remarks"
