New project researches LGBTIQ discrimination in vocational education

>> 27 March 2021 - A new European project embarks on a research on LGBTIQ discrimination in vocational education. The UNIQUE project focuses on training vocational teachers to become ambassadors of sexual and gender diversity, and the research is part of the needs assessment. GALE is one of the partners in the project and conducts the research both in the Netherlands, where it is based, and in other countries in Europe.

European partnership proposes 11 qualifications for LGBTI+ sensitivity for vocational training

>> 26 February 2021 - The SENSE-project published her fourth newsletter. This issue focuses on how the European partnership developed qualification frameworks for students and teachers in vocational education. A key question was: do we need formal and specific LGBTI+ criteria for vocational professional qualifications? Or are general competences enough when applied with adequate sensitivity?

Dutch reformational schools out LGBT students to their parents

>> 26 March 2021 - The Dutch newspaper NRC reports that the Dutch reformational Christian Gomarus schools out LGBT students to their parents without the students permission. Because the parents are from ultraconservative Christian communities, the results are often disastrous. The teachers and counselors of Gomarus follow the guideline on homosexuality developed by their national reformational school federation VGS, which is looking for the limits of the Dutch equal opportunities legislation. Presentation of new method for LGBTI sensitivity in VET

>> 30 March 2021 - On May 18, the European federation for Vocational Education and Training providers will organize an online presentation and expert meeting of the SENSE-project on LGBTI issues in vocational education. The presentation will present the four products of the project and will discuss the need for national and European specific qualifications vocational students need to support LGBTI clients and customers. At the end of the online meeting, a Dutch spoken session will be held to discuss the specific experiences in the Dutch partner organization ROC van Amsterdam.

GALE develops individual right to education survey

> 22 December 2020 - In addition to the Right to Education Checklist, GALE is now also developing a survey that can be filled in by individuals. The Right to Education Checklist is a policy checklist with 15 checkpoints. It monitors the level of implementation of the right to education for LGBTIQ+ students. However, the Checklist requires some knowledge about your country’s education policy. Many LGBTIQ+ people would like to contribute to the mapping, but don’t know about policy. They asked if GALE could develop a questionnaire that links their individual experiences with school with the national policy.
